Abstract:   (128 Views)
Background and Aim: Apart from maternal, neonatal and environmental factors, the placental factor also plays a very important role in predicting the health of the fetus, and its anthropometric examination is helpful for pregnancy support care. This study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between placental characteristics and maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 230 term pregnant women by available sampling method. First, the placenta was examined, and then its largest diameter, the weight of the placenta and baby, and Apgar 1 and 5 minutes were measured. the demographic information questionnaire as well as the information related to the pregnancy status and the checklist for recording information related to pregnancy and newborn outcomes were completed. The data were analyzed using SPSS-20 software to check the quantitative data of mean and standard deviation and to check the qualitative descriptive data of frequency. T-test and correlation tests were also used to analyze the data and study variables.
Results: There was a correlation between placental weight and birth weight in newborns. there was no correlation between placental weight, birth weight and placental diameter with fetal meconium, Apgar score in the first minute, sex, mother's age. there was an inverse correlation between the ratio of placental weight to birth weight and maternal hemoglobin in newborns.
Conclusion: The ratio of placenta weight to birth weight can be used as a simple and calculable warning sign to be aware of short-term health risks for babies.
