Risk Communication in Health Crises: An Overlooked Necessity

Abstract:   (31 Views)
Risk communication is a core component of public health emergency response strategies, including epidemics, pandemics, and natural disasters. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed critical deficiencies in timely, transparent, and culturally-sensitive communication, which exacerbated public confusion, mistrust, and reduced compliance with health advisories. This letter to the editor highlights the vital role of risk communication in outbreak control and urges its integration into health systems preparedness frameworks. Recommendations include incorporating crisis communication training into health curricula, developing multilingual platforms, and leveraging digital technologies for disseminating credible information. Greater focus on risk communication can enhance community resilience and reduce health and psychological impacts during emergencies.
